Over 1000 photographic entries were received for the L’Oréal Colour Trophy and just 400 salon teams make it through to the final events. Back in May a powerhouse team of seven renowned salons went head to head inside the L’Oréal International Academy, London during an intense live final that exploded creative talent in every direction.

Each team had to create a well-executed, inspirational, modern colour showcasing a female look on a model of African/Caribbean descent with technically excellent colour and precision cutting skills. The highly respected judging panel was made up from Craig Chapman from Craig Chapman Hair Design, Michelle Sultan from Hype Coiffure, Kim Johnson from Hype Coiffure, Errol Douglas MBE, Junior Green and Michelle Thompson from The Francesco Group.

Rick Roberts will now embark on an amazing year of promotional, creative and business building activity including a 3 day European trip to shoot their winning look with a professional photographic team, interviews and profiles in the trade press and countless other brand opportunities.

Rick joins the London Masterclass

London Masterclass, 20.3.17

The biggest event to round off a very busy, Fellowship-filled day was the London Masterclass held at Opal Bar. Drawing from an abundance of The Fellowship’s finest performers, the place was alive and abuzz.

The stellar line-up represented the diversity and difference of The Fellowship today; Jamie Stevens, Ashleigh Hodges, Dan Spiller for Marc Antoni, Johnny Shanahan for BarberBarber UK, Chris Foster for Foss Academy, Junior Green, Rick Roberts, Jake Ungar for HOB, Errol Douglas MBE, Oon Ng for Sassoon Academy, Sam Burnett for Hare and Bone, Jamie Benny for Rush and of course, special guest Cos Sakkas for Toni&Guy.

Not to mention the fantastic hosts, Karine Jackson and Mark Creed to complete the Fellowship feast!

The venue had an informal club feel, leading to a cool and vibrant atmosphere where hairdressing’s art form was enjoyed by the audience whilst they networked, socialized and connected with one another. The creative pods were crowded by admirers who got close to the action and could interact with the masters whilst they worked.

Rick Roberts the Creative Director at Rick Roberts Salon said it felt great after he picked up two awards at The English Hair & Beauty Awards.

Mr. Roberts walked away with the Women’s stylist of the year 2015 and the Colour technician of the year 2015 at a glitzy ceremony held at The Mercure Hotel in Manchester.

Speaking to HU17.net a delighted Mr. Roberts said;

“I Feel great to have won these awards. I have worked really hard over many years to be recognised as a distinguished hairdresser. It was a perfect end to what has been a great month for me. In March, I have won four top awards, it is just amazing.”

Mr. Roberts added;

“Being the greatest or acknowledged as the being the best Ladies Hairdresser is important for me and the salon. It is marvelous to carry the title when I am doing shows and teaching around the UK and Ireland.”

“Winning colour technician is hugely important. When I started hairdressing, I did not like colouring but know I love it now. To win this after I have just become a Matrix Colour Master is incredible.”

“The colour technician award is the icing on the cake as it shows I’m great at colouring and women’s hair, both awards complement each over very well.”

Having enjoyed such a successful month Mr. Roberts said he had no idea he would win in Manchester, when asked how he felt about his chances he told HU17.net;

“I never go expecting to win any awards, but I knew this year my profile has got bigger. I thought I had a better chance, but to win two awards was simply amazing.”

When asked about the other awards Mr. Roberts has scooped he said;

“I won Balmain commercial Extensionist of the year at the begging of March, which acknowledges that I’m the UK Best Commercial Extensionist. That won me an photo shoot with an amazing photographer called Barry Jeffrey.”

“The second one I won in Budapest last week, Matrix Artist Recognition Award. This was when I was launching Matrix, the biggest product launch for seven years. Furthermore, next week we are competing in the L’Oréal Colourtrophy.”

When asked if he felt winning these awards is good for business and for Beverley Mr. Roberts said;

“Any kind of award is important for the salon. Winning one award is outstanding but winning four in one month is amazing and shows hard work pays off. Having excellent staff and wonderful clients is what make us great.”

“For me, we have good hairdressers in Beverley, but we are the biggest winning salon in Beverley. With a multi award winning salon we can truly say we have made a mark in the industry, putting Beverley on the hairdressing map.”

Rick launches Matrix Style link in budapest, at Matrix national conference

By Matthew at hji

The launch of a brand new styling range, the return of an industry icon as ambassador and the opportunity to network with hair artists, educators and distributors, all in the inspirational surroundings of Budapest – welcome to the Matrix National Conference 2015.

Delegates didn’t have to wait long for the main announcement of the conference – the launch of Style Link – 10 new styling products and three boosters designed to create bespoke looks for every client. The range was unveiled at the welcome party, with Matrix artists Rick Roberts , Christian Wiles, and Ashleigh Hodges demonstrating the versatility of the products on models to the soundtrack of a live DJ, while global ambassador Paul Falltrick talked through the ethos behind the launch.

Style Mix is formed of four categories – Prep, Play, Perfect and Boost. Stylists are encouraged to mix elements of each category to create prescriptive looks, encouraging homecare sales and offering the stylist more creative freedom.
The other big news at the opening party was that Errol Douglas will be returning as Matrix global ambassador. Errol told guests that it was “great to be home.”

Day two of the conference saw delegates getting hands on experience of the range, creating their own bespoke looks on mannequin heads under the guidance of Paul Falltrick and other key members of the artistic team.

The conference ended with a gala dinner and awards at the stunning Museum of Applied Art where Matrix general manager Hugo Boisvert and national education manager Deborah Bees recognised those that had supported the Matrix brand over the past 12 months, including artists, educators and distributors.
